Suits differentiated classes, individual, pair and group work.
Maths language: student, materials, maths and symbolic (with +, -, = tiles).

Fast, cheap and easy to make by busy teachers.
Concept and Purpose
The concept of addition is the joining together of two or more groups of things to find the total number of things.
The purpose of the addition mat is to help students develop the idea of addition (with a fun hands-on engaging practical activity) rather than explaining it to them.
Student Learning Outcomes
Students are required to demonstrate the joining together of groups (rockets) of objects (Minions) and finding out how many there are altogether (on the moon). At Student language level this will require them to physically move the Minions tiles. At Symbolic Language level they are required to record their number sentences.
